Very spontaneously changed our plans to cycle to Neuburg an der Donau for the weekend – I had seen an article in the paper about it. My touring bike is still being fixed, so I went on my mountain bike. We took the S-Bahn to Petershausen, through a Munich that was preparing for the opening of the Oktoberfest.
It was quite hilly at the beginning, and then flattened off significantly when we got to the moory area nearer the Danube. The hops have been harvested.
Our hotel in Neuburg was called ‘Aussicht’ (view), well named. Here the view onto the Danube from our room.
Neuburg itself is a really pretty medieval town with a huge Renaissance castle.
There was a pottery market going on, for which a special beer was brewed. Even met a colleague there!
Had dinner in a restaurant aptly called ‘the view ‘ with a view of the Danube. Not bad from the bridge, either.
