Bonn- Cologne, 38km (3.8.26)

We knew the temperatures were going to be 15° above comfort level today (Cologne hit 36°C this afternoon),  so we decided to start early and not go far. It meant we saw this beautiful view at breakfast in Bonn.

Even the early start did not save us from feeling hot and sweating profusely. Luckily we were in shady woods for much of this bit of the Rhine path,

other bits looked more industrial.

Again we were appalled by the record low levels of the Rhine, many ferries are not running, boats are on the dry, trees are dying (not just losing their leaves far too early).

We arrived in Cologne before midday.

Unfortunately we could not get into our room,  yet,  so we walked around Cologne, bought new shoes for Phil, had lunch, tried to evade the heat. Dinner was in our air-conditioned hotel room.

We are starting to wonder about the idea of holidays in the summer- it is just too hot.
