Limburg an der Lahn- Kronberg im Taunus, 62km (13.8.26)

I found it hard to plan our route for the day on the phone, but then I suppose there is no easy route up into the Taunus. We ended up ascending 750m, most of which at over 30°C. We could feel, however, that it was cooler higher up and in the forest.

The beginning was beautiful, we followed the Hessischer Radwanderweg R8 till just after Idstein. We rolled along nicely and enjoyed the scenery, including many herons and storks.

The necessary diversions were signposted well.

As I did not feel so confident about the planned route, we followed a bike sign to Königsdorf,  which meant we ended up on some forestry paths climbing the Taunus without any further direction. The GPS location on my phone also decided to not work well at this point – made me realise how dependent we had become on electronics. But then we did not have to buy maps everywhere in non-existent shops. At the top we were not rewarded with a view, but there was a ‘secret’ restaurant, at which we had a drink.

The descent through Königstein to Kronberg was very pleasant.

In the hotel we then got ready for our night out, our treat for the last night of this trip. We got tickets for the Rheingau Musik Festival to see Joris at the Gestüt Schafhof. This is an amazing stud farm, which they had converted to an outdoor concert venue, amazing location! The music was quite forgettable German pop, which we had never heard (of) before.
