It had obviously rained very recently, but we set off without rain and only got wet on the last few metres of the day. Quite undulating in the beginning, but bearable.
We vaguely planned to have our first break in Schongau, but could not find anywhere there. I did not like the place, too many cars in the centre, too many inclines of 10% or more for cyclists. So we ended up having our mint tea and coffee from our flasks outside St. Ursula’s chapel with a great view of the countryside.
We saw a garden with an amazing model railway, incorporating a lot of Playmobil.
Suddenly some of the route seemed familiar, Phil, Alex and I had walked from Landsberg to the South about seven years earlier. One of the reasons (and the dark clouds coming in behind us) that we did not follow the official route towards the end but went more directly. Again it was very difficult to find somewhere to eat, but still we decided against this truck stop.
We made the most of a Chinese buffet and then only bought some fruit for the evening. After check-in we went into Landsberg to refresh some memories from our first visit here with David and Helena quite a few years ago. Landsberg has brushed up well since then, very pleasant even in the drizzle.
We spent the evening in the hotel room thinking about our options for the next few days, given the weather.
