Inspired by watching the Tour de Femmes ascent of the Mont Ventoux on TV last night we cycled up to the triple border point, Belgium- the Netherlands – Germany, first thing in the morning.
We also reached the highest point of the Netherlands by bike.
Although we needed to climb about 200m it was quite a nice little tour.
After a break in the hotel we continued to Düren. We had intended to continue cycling South toward Saarbrücken, but the weather forecast made us re-think again: that seems to be a particularly hot area of Germany the next few days. So the plan is now, and it might change again, to approach Ingelheim from the North.
The route itself first followed an old railway line and was then quite industrial. We had our lunch break in Langerwehe, a pottery town .
90% of Düren had been destroyed in WWII. It is not an unpleasant place, but little photogenic. The town square was quite nice for having a drink and people-watching.
