Plattling – Landshut, 73km (1.7.23)

Good breakfast, early start, dry all day – that’s the way I like it. The headwind was survivable.

About twelve years ago Alex, Phil and I cycled down the Isar, I did stretches in the other direction today. Basically nothing has changed, the route is beautiful, but it is difficult to find anything to eat or drink, never mind accommodation.

Had my first break in Landau, where a former firefighter saw me looking at my phone and helped by suggesting a good bakery. I later saw him and his dog again along the Isar.

The lack of break-opportunities meant that I arrived in Landshut on the dot of 14:00. That meant, Phil, who I met up with here, and I had plenty of opportunity to soak in the special medieval atmosphere that surrounds the celebrations of the Landshuter Hochzeit.

We had tickets for a concert of music from around 1475. This was in the Prunksaal of the town hall, very fitting place, and was marvellous! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

We walked back via a stop-off in a vegetarian restaurant for my favourite organic beer. Partly due to the excellent weather the atmosphere was still great.
