Freising – Ottobrunn, 72 km (20.5.24)

21/05/202421/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

The weather was great again, and on the way back we chose a route to the North of the airport, which, apart from the noise, was really beautiful. You could tell, that this used to be moor area, there is still quite a lot of water. Wit Monday traditionally is national mill day. According to … Read more

Ottobrunn – Freising, 73 km (19.5.24)

20/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

National museum day in Germany, and we managed to visit three totally different ones in combination with quite a good bike tour. Cycling to Ismaning marked the start. There we got a guided tour of the Seidlmühle, a former water driven sawmill. We learnt a lot, including about different saws and saw-blades, splitting wood vs. … Read more

Ising – Rosenheim, 71km (12.5.24)

12/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

Excellent ride fairly early in the morning round the North side of the Chiemsee, before most other cyclists and walkers got going. At Breitenbrunn we met a very friendly elderly gentleman, who explained the history of the place to us. Turns out, he was the local historian, and used to be a local councillor. He … Read more

Freilassing – Ising, 74km (11.5.24)

12/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

To join the Mozart bike route we took a ‘short-cut’ through the woods, our daily micro adventure. After that it was really beautiful and good to ride. We followed the Salzach to Laufen first and actually saw the first reference to Mozart so far, so he had actually been in this castle. Laufen has a … Read more

Reit im Winkl – Ruhpolding, Freilassing, 30km (10.5.24)

11/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

We had time for a very leisurely breakfast before the bike shop opened. My bike was fixed and ready to go by lunchtime, I still have no idea how seven cogs were bent. We filled the waiting time by looking around Reit im Winkl some more and buying a jacket each. The bike route to … Read more

Rosenheim – Reit im Winkl, 59km (9.5.24)

09/05/2024 by Tania Campbell

Took the S-Bahn to Kreuzstraße and then the train to Rosenheim. Worked well, it even stopped raining just as we arrived in Rosenheim. We followed the Inn South to Niederndorf in Austria. Unfortunately on the way my derailleur developed problems, so I was restricted to three real gears and the two lowest (luckily). From the … Read more

Bremen – Ottobrunn, 47km (31.3. – 1.4.24)

02/04/2024 by Tania Campbell

As it was raining all of Easter Sunday morning we used the facilities of the hotel as much as possible: treadmill for Phil, weightsroom for me, very long, extended breakfast, swimming in the heated outdoor pool. Then we went on a 31 km tour along the Weser. The highlights for me were the Football stadium … Read more

Haselünne – Vechta, 70km (29.3.24)

30/03/2024 by Tania Campbell

We started cycling a little later than usual to avoid the rain and managed to remain dry all day. This area is very well suited for cycling. It is just a shame, that most bike paths are not broad enough to be comfortable for two cyclists side by side. Went through moor areas again, and … Read more

Coevorden – Haselünne, 67km (28.3.24)

29/03/2024 by Tania Campbell

Beautiful beginning to the cycling: we followed the Dutch German border on the Dutch side for a while, which runs in the river Aan. The area also seems to be on top of an oil field. I had done some washing, the colours of the inlays of my cycling pants drying on my panniers should … Read more

Kampen – Coevorden, 68km (27.3.24)

28/03/2024 by Tania Campbell

The wind was no issue today, but it rained on and off. Overijssel is beautiful to cycle through. I especially liked the bits through the woods. We came across the site of an old work camp that was established in 1930 to house the unemployed who were planting the forest, helping the farmers, building roads, … Read more
